Growth and Development

As your child grows, we want to ensure a healthy, beautiful smile! Our team at Webb City Dental focuses on growth and development for all of our pediatric patients.

Stages of Growth

Your child’s teeth go through three stages as your child grows:

Stage 1: Teeth begin to develop when your child is still waiting to be born. Primary teeth are forming while the baby is still in the womb.
Stage 2: A few months after the baby is born, teeth begin pushing through the gums. Most children start the teething process between six and twelve months, although some may start earlier or later.
Stage 3: Make room for adult teeth! Between the ages of 5 and 7, your child starts to lose baby teeth.

Our goal is to watch and guide our patients throughout these stages, giving you and your child the best opportunity for a healthy smile.

Taking Care of Developing Smiles Is Important!

Webb City Dental is here to help you care for your children’s smiles at every stage. Take a look at some of our tips. If you still have questions, call our office to ask our friendly professionals!

Teeth Cleaning in Infancy

Did you know that good oral hygiene begins at birth? You can clean your infant’s mouth out after feedings using a clean, damp cloth. Any food sitting in the mouth can cause decay, even in infancy, so take time after each meal to clean your baby’s mouth.

Teething

A teething baby may feel fussy and irritable. Try using an infant pain reliever and offering cold teethers for the baby to chew. If you’re worried about teething at all, feel free to give us a call.

First Teeth

Once your baby starts showing teeth, you want to start thinking about dental appointments. We recommend the first appointment around a year old. You can also start using a baby toothbrush without toothpaste.

Good Nutrition

Eating healthy foods isn’t just good for the body, but good for teeth, too. A calcium-rich diet can strengthen your child’s teeth as they grow!

Preventative Measures

Fluoride tablets and rinses are a great way to prevent cavities as your child grows. We may also recommend sealants for teeth that have deep fissures or may be prone to cavities, such as the molars.
